This issue was really a big headache for me! Restoring the phone helped.

09.02.2020 – Tap Software Update. I cleaned the SIM card and put some tape on it. Put 3 small pieces of scotch tape on the top side without the metal contacts of the SIM card. I am so over these apples iPhones uggggggg! This will pop the tray out of its slot.

I pulled the SIM cardblew on it and accidentally dropped it, turned the phone off, replaced the card, turned the phone back on and it worked.
